Surveillance camera secures arrest

Riverside, Ca- On Tuesday, January 16, 2007, at about 3:52 a.m., Riverside Police Department patrol officers investigated a suspicious subject call in the 3500-block of Linwood Place in the City of Riverside. Officers found that someone had attempted to remove a set of surveillance cameras positioned to the rear of a residence, toward an adjacent alley. This was third such report of home surveillance camera tampering being made at that residence in the last few months.

Patrol officers located a subject matching the description nearby at Jurupa and Magnolia. Footage from the victimís surveillance camera helped to identify this suspect, Brandon BENTON, 22, of Riverside.

The suspect was arrested and a follow-up investigation by the patrol officer and a detective took them to the suspectís residence nearby in the 3700-block of Rosewood Place. Officers located the cordless drill the suspect used, as well as the pillowcase the suspect is seen in the video wearing over his head, presumably as an attempt to disguise himself. Benton was booked for attempted grand theft and prowling.
