COLD CASE INVESTIGATION LEADS TO 3 ARRESTS IN 2019 SHOOTING

 

RIVERSIDE, CA – Three suspects have been arrested for a shooting that occurred in the 6400 block of Nidever Avenue in Riverside in 2019.

 

On Sunday, March 3, 2019, at 12:11 a.m., a shooting took place at a residence in the 6400 block of Nidever Avenue in Riverside. There were several occupants in the house when the shooting occurred, and two victims were struck by the gunfire. Izaac Colunga was struck and critically injured, suffering permanent paralysis from the neck down. The second victim was treated for a minor injury and released from the hospital. Detectives worked diligently on the case and were further assisted by the Riverside Police Department’s Gang Intelligence Unit, Problem-Oriented Policing Team, Post-Release Accountability & Compliance Team, Forensic Science and Crime Analysis Units, and the FBI’s Criminal Apprehension Team.

 

The case was subsequently picked up and worked by our Homicide Cold Case Unit. Investigative leads were developed and the suspects were eventually identified as 26-year-old Dereck Anthony Wood of Riverside, 26-year-old Raymond Floyd Cervin of Riverside, and 26-year-old Donte Justice Reese of Las Vegas. Over the past few months, these three suspects were arrested for their involvement in the shooting.  Their charges include shooting at an inhabited dwelling and two counts of attempted homicide.

 

A fourth suspect was identified as 23-year-old Lawrence House of Riverside, but he died of natural causes in 2021.

The Riverside Police Department’s Homicide Cold Case Unit was established in May of 2020. Detectives Beler and Wilkinson head the unit and are committed to aggressively working these unsolved cases in hopes of holding the offenders accountable and bringing some closure to the victims and their families.

 

Detectives Beler and Wilkinson are also part of the Riverside County Regional Cold Case Homicide Team at the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. In April 2020, the District Attorney's Office formed this task force to address unsolved cold case homicides. The team is comprised of District Attorney Investigators, Riverside County Sheriff’s Detectives, Riverside Police Detectives, and members of the Riverside County Coroner's Office.
