1st Annual Cultural Festival - Exploring the Roots of the Citrus Industry - Showcasing the Korean Community

Friday, September 27, 2024

The Friends of California Citrus Park are hosting a series of annual celebrations highlighting the diverse cultures that contributed to the success of the citrus industry.
This year’s event showcases the Korean community, starting with a twilight grove tour from 6 to 7 p.m. The tour will provide historical insights into the Korean Americans who settled in Riverside and their involvement in the citrus industry in the early 1900s.

Following the tour, there will be an authentic Korean dinner inside the Sunkist Center and special presentations by Dr. Edward Chang and Carol Park. Dr. Chang will share the history of Pachappa Camp in Riverside, the first Koreatown in the United States. Ms. Park will present an interactive art display highlighting Korean American women who, despite being largely invisible within the broader community, played a crucial role in the development of the area.
