'LGBTQ+ youth who had been in foster care had nearly four times greater odds of being kicked out, abandoned, or running away due to treatment based on their LGBTQ identity compared' (The Trevor Project Research Brief). LGBTQ+ Youth in Riverside County need your help!
Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers help ensure each youth experiencing foster care is safe, happy, and supported during their free time.
Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers gets to know a child’s situation, communicates with professionals on the case, and makes sure the child’s needs are being met. Over time, the volunteer often becomes the most consistent person in a child’s life. Each volunteer is match with one youth or sibling group during the 18-month commitment.
Court Appointed Special Advocate Volunteers receive 35 hours of extensive training over 3 weeks, and training is a combination of classroom and independent study. Each training session happens once a month, and each month’s times and location vary to best fit your schedule.
After passing all requirements and training, Court Appointed Special Advocate Volunteer is match with a staff member for support and guidance, followed by matching with a youth currently experiencing foster care. We ask for a minimum 18-month commitment with 10-15 hours per month.
