Bayard Rustin: The Man Behind the Dream

01/25/2020 - 7:30pm to 9:30pm

Celebrate diversity in the dream for civil, legal and human rights as over 100 singers present the Inland Empire premiere of Bayard Rustin: The Man Behind the Dream. This multi-movement piece, set for chorus and spoken word, honors the life and work of openly gay civil rights activist Bayard Rustin, a mentor to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and organizer of the 1963 March on Washington. Focused on peaceful protest and the dignity of all people, Rustin was pushed to the margins of the movement due to his sexuality.

Presented by the South Coast Chorale - the LGBT Chorus of Long Beach, the performance will also include the Raincross Master Chorale, UCR Chamber Choir and the Riverside Resistance Revival Chorus, accompanied by a live band and video projection. The concert will also feature special Guest Artists Connie Rouse and Parnell Damone Marcano (OWN's Greenleaf).
