“From Picture Palace to Multiplex: Transformational Theatre Trends in Southern California’s Inland Empire and San Gabriel Valley”

In the Inland Empire and San Gabriel Valley, residents and vacationers enjoyed frequent test screenings of Hollywood films. These audiences influenced what moviegoers elsewhere watched. The history of film screenings in these regions reflects local and national trends. Entertainment options proliferated in these regions as people flocked to areas famed for their scenic citrus groves and vineyards, their position along Route 66, and their mountain and desert resorts. This presentation showcases the evolution and transformations of the region’s movie theaters. Dr. Shapiro’s new book Inland Empire and San Gabriel Valley Movie Theatres will be available for purchase.

Science, nature, history, and culture! Always different, never boring. Fascinating discussions with experts from our local communities about new research and local stories in the Main Library Community Room (3900 Mission Inn Avenue) from 6:30-8 p.m. Recommended for audiences 16+
