City of Riverside Hazardous Materials Team is Type 1 State of California Office of Emergency Services Certified, the highest certification level available. The City of Riverside Fire Department has been Type 1 certified for over 5 years and was the first Type 1 team in the County.
The 8 member team is highly trained to Hazardous Materials Specialist level. They are also Weapons of Mass Destruction Certified. The team can, and has, handled unknown white powder calls, various spills on the road and at industrial facilities, and unknown gas leaks.
The Hazardous Materials Team has several vehicles that house the immense amount of equipment required to be Type 1. These include: environmental monitors, radiation detectors, WMD monitors, and mitigation equipment.
