About the Film
As
part of our ongoing tribute to the legacy of naturalist John Muir, the Museum
will be presenting weekend screenings of this new film. “Yosemite: A Gathering
of Spirit”, a documentary film by Ken Burns each Saturday & Sunday at 3 pm from
June 28 - Oct 26. These screenings are made possible by the Yosemite
Conservancy, the only philanthropic organization dedicated exclusively to
Yosemite National Park.
The production of this 25-minute documentary film was funded by Yosemite
Conservancy donors to honor the 150th anniversary of the Yosemite Grant. The
important story told in Yosemite: A Gathering of Spirit focuses on individuals
and how their efforts laid the groundwork for Yosemite National Park. Visionary
Americans like Abraham Lincoln, Galen Clark, John Muir and Theodore Roosevelt
understood that the wonders of the American wilderness are not only our
inheritance, but our responsibility.
Both Ken Burns and Dayton Duncan have spent time in Yosemite and are
passionate storytellers. It is their goal to inspire those who care about
Yosemite to follow in the footsteps of Muir, Clark, Roosevelt, and Lincoln and
fight to keep Yosemite’s natural and cultural treasures preserved and protected
for visitors today and for future generations.
