Meet City of RiversideFire Department’s Lovie Jung. She has been with the department for about seven years as a firefighter/paramedic.

Have you always wanted to be a firefighter?
When I was younger, I wanted to be a firefighter but I got sidetracked by softball. I actually played for the United States Olympic team in 2004 and 2008. When I retired from softball in 2009, I decided I wanted to finally switch over and become a firefighter.

What do you love about your job?
I get to work with a group of people I genuinely enjoy working with. Having that comradery is something I missed after being an athlete. And now, being a mom, I want to be a role model for my daughter as she grows up. I want to show her she can be independent and have a job that she truly loves, whether it’s a male-dominated career or not.

If you had to describe your job in one word, what would it be?
Adventurous. Every day is different. Depending on the training and the type of calls we run, no two days ever look the same. Every day that I come to work looks different than the day before and the day after.
