A MESSAGE FROM CHIEF GONZALEZ

"Hi, Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez here with an important message about the recent news of the National Guard being deployed.

I want our community members to be clearly aware we are not under martial law or lockdown. The deployment of the California National Guard in parts of our state, and in Riverside County, is for humanitarian operations only. They will be assigned to assist at food banks, help with delivery of needed medical supplies, and used as support to build out alternate care sites.

Your Riverside Police Department is still policing our city’s neighborhoods and addressing the public safety needs as they arise. We are at appropriate staffing levels and have contingency plans to adjust our resources, if needed.

Here is where we still could use your help. Please continue following the public health recommendations for social distancing and hygiene. All the medical experts have said exposure to this virus will significantly decrease when people are washing their hands regularly and staying a distance of at least six feet from others when you are outside your home. And if you need to leave your home to get the essentials? No problem… just remember to keep your safe distance from others at those open businesses, get what you need, then return home.

Keep following all updates to COVID-19 in Riverside at www.RiversideCA.gov/COVID-19, along with social media from your City, Police, Fire, and Office of Emergency Management.

Stay informed, stay safe!”  - Chief Larry V. Gonzalez
