With schools dating back to the 1870s, the Riverside Unified School District (RUSD) is the 16th largest school district in California. RUSD educates nearly 42,000 students across 50+ schools (31 elementary, 9 middle schools, 7 high schools, and 8 specialty schools) in Riverside and serves a large portion of Riverside as well as the unincorporated areas of Highgrove and Woodcrest.

The Alvord Unified School District, serves the western portion of the City of Riverside, the eastern portion of the City of Corona, and segments of unincorporated parts of Riverside County. Their 23 schools (14 elementary, 4 middle schools, 5 high schools) provide nearly 20,000 students with learning experiences necessary to inspire them to fulfill their own unlimited potential.

Riverside City College (RCC) is the seventh oldest community college in the state with a proud legacy in Sports, Health-Related Sciences, Business Information Systems & Technology, and Visual Performing Arts. The college has a state-of-the-art music training facility and concert hall, a nursing school, childhood education center, and the Culinary Arts Academy. Many students, especially those who are already in the workforce, attend RCC to gain certification in a specialized skill or to finish an associate degree. RCC offers more than 2,000 course options and is also home to Gateway College, Middle College/Early College, Workforce Preparation programs, Open Campus (online education), Community Education and other unique initiatives that provide learning opportunities for students ages 16 to 65+.

California Baptist University (CBU) is one of the top private Christian colleges and universities in Southern California.
