As the 21st Fire Chief for the City of Riverside, I am proud to represent this outstanding organization. The men and women of our Department are committed to the residents, businesses and visitors of our City. As the City of Arts & Innovation we will continually seek new ways to provide our services in an effort to be more efficient, more adaptable and more responsive to the needs of our community.

In the Fall of 2001, the Governor of California signed into law Senate Bill 255, also known as Kaitlyn’s Law. Named for Kaitlyn Russell, a six-month old who died after being left alone in a parked car for more than two hours, the law makes it illegal for a child to be left unattended in a motor vehicle.

In accordance with Kaitlyn’s Law, 70% of the proceeds from fines are used for the development and implementation of community education programs on the dangers of leaving children unattended in motor vehicles.

The Riverside Police Department is offering free Smart Medical ID bracelets through our Get Home Safe program. The bracelet is worn by at risk persons and is used by Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Personnel to help identity a found person that may not be able to provide information about themselves.

The information found in the profile helps first responders locate, identify, and most importantly, get a lost person home safe. This program is free to all Riverside residents.
