Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for RFD's New Fire Apparatus Funded by Measure Z

Published: 03/10/2019

Join us as we celebrate the City of Riverside Fire Department’s unveiling of our new fire apparatus with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 10 a.m. in front of Fire Station 1, 3401 University Ave., Riverside, CA 92501.

In November 2016, the Fire Department identified the severity of the need to replace vehicles as they had exceeded their shelf life, mileage or hour limits, and were incurring high costs in repairs. On May 16, 2017, City Council approved a 5-year spending plan of Measure Z funding which included a one-time allocation of $14.5 million to the City of Riverside Fire Department for new apparatus and required equipment.

In November 2017, the City chose Pierce Manufacturing as the vendor to build the 17 new pieces of apparatus which included: 8 engines, 3 tiller trucks, 1 straight truck, 1 brush engine, 2 water tenders and 2 squads. The purchase of these units will replace the majority of the current front line apparatus while some of the aged units will become part of the reserve fleet.  These top-of-the-line units come to Riverside with many new features that will support the safety of our firefighters. One of the new fire engines and two squads have been placed in service already; the remaining apparatus are expected to be in service by May 2019.
