Current Situation
The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a reported natural gas leak. The first unit on arrival found an unknown high-pressure leak of a flammable gas and requested the Hazardous Materials Team. The Acorn incident command was established, and the surrounding businesses were evacuated with the area streets closed in all directions from the incident. The HazMat team made entry with SoCal Gas and City of Riverside Public Works and determined the leak was coming from a CNG storage system and delivery system. Public Works officials were able to make entry and control the active leak with Fire Department personnel on rescue standby. Approximately, 500,000 cubic feet of natural gas was released and was quickly dissipated with the high winds in the area. The HazMat team made entry into the nearby business and conducted air monitoring ensuring they were safe to reoccupy. Battalion Chief White was in command of the Acorn incident. All evacuations and street closures were downgraded while City Officials repair the faulty relief valve.
