Current Situation
FINAL UPDATE:
On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at 1:18 p.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a vegetation fire in the river bottom area, situated to the north of Martha McLean Anza Narrows Park. This incident was complicated by the fact that the fire in heavy fuels within the river bottom and firefighters had to use a ladder to bridge a creek to make access.
An additional three alarms were requested to the incident along with Riverside County Cal-Fire to assist, this brought the alarm total to 4 Alarms. The fire was determined to have originated in Riverside County at a Homeless Camp and burned into the City of Riverside. A total of 60 firefighters and six chief officers were assigned to the incident. The fire was mapped at 1.4 acres. There were no firefighters or civilian injuries. RPD responded to the incident and had to assist firefighters during the incident when a male transient entered the fire perimeter and would not leave.
Initial Update:
The City of Riverside Fire Department has responded to a vegetation fire in the riverbottom area, situated to the north of Martha McLean Anza Narrows Park. This incident is complicated by the fact that the fire in heavy fuels well within the riverbottom. The fire is currently ¼ acre with a potential of five acres. Presently, our response includes one Battalion Chief, seven Engines, one Water Tender and one Brush Engine. Resource commitment is estimated to take approximately three hours.
Station coverage remains intact during this response. Incident Command is with Battalion Chief Vanderhorst from Battalion 1.
