Ward 7 Hemenway / Vegetation Fire / Down Powerline / 11200 Block of Arlington Ave / RIV Incident #25-010295

The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to the 11200 Block of Arlington Ave between the cemetery and Fairhaven for reports of a vegetation fire.  Firefighters arrived to discover Riverside County Regional Park employees attempting to extinguish the fire with extinguishers.  Firefighters had to close both directions of travel on Arlington Ave due to a down powerline along with fire suppression hose.

The fire was held to a ¼ acre with a couple of small spot fires in mulch piles due to ember casting from palm trees.

The on-duty investigator responded to the incident and determined the probable cause was palm trees in the powerlines.  The powerline was broken and dropped prior to our arrival.  Fire suppression was hampered until RPU could deenergize the line.  RPU responded to the incident and secured the powerline.

There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. Arlington Ave was closed in both directions for approximately 90 minutes.
