The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a report of a vegetation fire along Challen Ave.  The first arriving unit found a working fire approximately a quarter acre in size involving light fuels traveling at a slow rate of spread with a potential for 2-3 acres.  There were no threats to infrastructure.  One additional engine company was requested for manpower.  Battalion 2, Richmond was in command of the Challen Incident which was controlled at approximately 2225 hours with 30-40 minutes estimated for overhaul. A cause and origin investigation was completed, and it was determined that the likely cause of the fire was the misuse of illegal fireworks.
