Current Situation

The City of Riverside Fire Department is currently on scene at a commercial building in response to a possible hazardous materials release. Initial reports from the first-arriving engine company indicate approximately four individuals may have been exposed to what appears to be an ammonia leak.

A full HazMat response has been initiated. Resources assigned to the incident include two engines, one truck, four AMR ambulances, and the City of Riverside Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Team, and Fire Prevention.

Battalion 1, Chief Vanderhorst, is serving as the Columbia Incident Commander. Crews are actively treating the victims and conducting a thorough assessment of the area for additional hazards.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
