Current Situation
On Tuesday May 24, 2022, at 1509 Hours, the City of Riverside Fire Department responded a first alarm structure fire assignment to the 5400 Block of Conestoga Lane for reports of a structure fire. Firefighters arrived to find 7 residential backyards with vegetation on fire along with vegetation on fire on the Union Pacific Railroad Right Away. Three additional engine companies were requested to the incident along with support staff. Firefighters contained the vegetation fire and there was no damage to residential structures. During the operation, the train tracks were shut down for one hour which affected Metrolink and Union Pacific operations. The tracks were re-opened. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
Investigator 1 determined the cause of the fire to probable train malfunction but accidental in nature.
