Current Situation

At 1224 Hours, on 1/16/2026, the City of Riverside Fire Department was dispatched to a reported vegetation fire in the area of the Old Boy Scout Camp within the Santa Ana Riverbottom. Units arrived reporting 3 separate fires burning in heavy fuels with a potential for 5 -10 acres. A second & third alarm was requested along with mutual aid from Cal Fire. Cal Fire arrived on scene and the fire management went into a unified command with Battalion 14B & Riverside City Battalion 1 & 2. One large spot fire was accessed from bike path near Mission Inn Avenue. The two other large fires were accessed from Dexter Drive near Lake Evans. A total of 8 city fire engine companies and 1 brush engine worked together to mitigate the incident. The fire was extinguished without injuries or property damage. Mutual Aid: Cal Fire assisted with full state response to protect their wildland protection area of nearby Jurupa Valley. The state response included dozers, brush engines, aircraft, and hand crews. The combined size of all three fires was just over 6.03 acres. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. There were no injuries reported to firefighters and no infrastructure was damaged.
