Current Situation

On Monday, June 23, 2025, at 5:52 p.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a first alarm vegetation fire assignment to the 2800 Block of Canyon Springs PKWY to the rear of Best Buy for a vegetation fire burning along the Eastbound 60 Freeway at Day Street.  CHP was on scene coordinating lane closures for RFD personnel on the Eastbound 60. 

During the fire suppression operations, a passenger vehicle impacted an engine company and struck the engine operator at the pump panel.  Fire department personnel immediately rendered aid to the injured firefighter.  Two AMR ambulances along with two additional engine companies and overhead support responded to the incident. The injured firefighter was transported to a local area trauma center in moderate condition.  The driver of the passenger vehicle was non-injured.

CHP conducted the accident scene investigation.  The fire was contained to less than a ½ acre.  A department arson investigator investigated, and the cause of the fire was undetermined after investigation.
