Current Situation
On Saturday, February 14, 2026, at approximately 10:10 a.m., the City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a first-alarm structure fire in the 3500 block of Douglass Avenue.
Upon arrival, firefighters located a vehicle fire in an alley adjacent to a residential structure. The fire had extended to the patio area of the residence. Crews quickly contained and extinguished the vehicle fire and prevented further extension to the structure.
Firefighters encountered additional hazards due to gasoline leaking from the involved vehicle, which contributed to active fuel fire conditions and contaminated suppression runoff. Crews deployed multiple dikes to contain the gasoline-contaminated water; however, some runoff entered the storm drain system.
The Riverside Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team responded and coordinated mitigation and cleanup operations with Riverside County Environmental Health, City Streets, and City Storm Drain personnel. A contracted environmental cleanup company, Clean Harbors, is also responding to assist with alleyway remediation.
The cause of the vehicle fire is under investigation by the Riverside Fire Department Arson Task Force in coordination with the Riverside Police Department.
No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported. The residential occupants were not displaced.
