Current Situation

On 12/27/2025 at 1143 hours, the City of Riverside Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a large truck “explosion” on the WB 91 near the Riverside Interchange.  The first arriving engine found a City of Riverside CNG powered trash truck on its side on the WB 91 to the EB 60 connector.  There was no fire, but a large amount of hydraulic fluid and engine coolant were leaking from the truck and running down the street.  Firefighters worked quickly to check the driver for injuries and mitigate the leaking fluids.  The driver self-extricated and was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.  CHP and Cal Trans representatives were on scene and worked with the Riverside Fire Haz Mat team to contain the leaking fluid and ensure the CNG tanks were safe.

The fluid leak was mitigated and all fire resources cleared the scene.  The incident was turned over to CHP who managed the removal of the truck and the final fluid cleanup.  The freeway connector will remain closed for an extended period of time.
