Current Situation
The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at the Glen Mor dorms, a UCR Hosing property. The first arriving fire unit found smoke coming from a first-floor window of a 5-story apartment style dormitory. Fire crews stretched an attack line and extinguished a kitchen fire that was being held in control by the buildings fire sprinkler system. Crews then quickly transitioned to salvage operations to limit water damage from the fire sprinkler system. In total 147 students were evacuated at the time of the fire and approximately 20 students will be placed in alternative apartments. The fire is currently under investigation in coordination with the UCR Fire Marshal and the City of Riverside’s Fire Investigation Unit. Damage is estimated to be approximately $100,000 with much of the damage being caused from the building’s fire suppression system. Battalion Chief Reynolds was the Big Springs Incident Commander and there were no reported injuries.
