Current Situation
The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a reported vegetation fire in the Alessandro Arroyo near the corner of Maude St and the Gage Canal. When fire crews arrived on scene they noted about ½ acre of vegetation burning off of the access road at a moderate rate of spread. Due to limited access, breezy conditions, and dry vegetation, the fire grew to 2 acres in a short period of time. A third alarm vegetation response was requested as a few structures became threatened during the incident. Fire crews were able to stop the forward progress of the fire in about 30 minutes with extensive mop of the burn area which took another 2 hours. No one was hurt during the incident and no structures were burned. The cause of the fire was due to an arcing downed power line at the heel of the fire.
