The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a possible natural gas leak in the area of the 10200 Block of Jurupa. Blanco Construction was digging to place underground conduit for 5G service. While in the process they struck the 4-inch natural gas main. The nearby community was advised to shelter in place while, So Cal Gas mitigated the leak. Approximately 120 homes were advised to shelter in place via Everbridge and the Wireless Emergency Alert System. RPD secure the area from vehicle traffic. Southern Cal Gas was able to mitigate the leak in about 2 hours times.
No injuries occurred during this incident.
On Tuesday, September 14, 2020 at 12:23 p.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department is currently working a natural gas line main break at Jurupa Ave X Cobb Street. RPD is assisting with traffic control. The gas line main break was possibly caused by a construction crew. All workers have been evacuated from the site. SOCAL Gas representative is on scene. Battalion 2 is the Jurupa Incident Commander and two engine companies are assigned to the incident. Riverside County EMD will be sending out an alert to the residents residing at Dunn, Auld, Macy, Julian, Ontario, Idllywild, Cobb Street are asking to be sheltered in place. The number of residential houses asked to shelter in place are approximately 120 residential houses. The alert message, however, will reach approximately 360 residential houses. The residential streets are closed to vehicle traffic. Currently there are no firefighter or civilian injuries. Commitment time for resources on scene will be approximately two hours. A total of 8 personnel one chief officer are assigned.
