Current Situation

The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a report of a vegetation fire near the 8600 block Van Buren west of the Riverside County Animal Shelter. The first arriving unit reported a quarter acre working vegetation fire in heavy fuels moving at a slow rate of spread with a potential for 10 acres. The Riverside County animal shelter was in the area but not threatened by fire. A unified command was established with both Cal Fire and City of Riverside. The fire was located in Riverside County jurisdiction and personnel we're committed approximately 2 hours until containment was achieved. The cause and origin investigation were completed by the jurisdiction having authority. Battalion 2, Chief Richmond acted as the initial Incident Commander and then Operations Section Chief until released by Cal Fire, Battalion 8. There were no reported civilian or firefighter injuries.
