(Recent updates are posted at the top of the Current Situation)

The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 5400 Block of Mitchell, cross of Gramercy, in Ward 7.  The first arriving unit found the front porch area of a small home on fire.  The fire was extending into the eaves and roof area.  There was also a large amount of stored goods near the front door that were burning.  An aggressive fire attack was initiated to control the fire and keep it from extending to the interior.  The two elderly residents had been awakened by a neighbor and escaped the home prior to the arrival of fire units.  An elderly male sustained moderate burn injuries to his hands and face.  He was treated on scene by paramedics but refused transport by ambulance.  The home sustained moderate damage and was deemed uninhabitable due to major electrical issues.  Red Cross was requested to assist with temporary housing.  The cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature.  No firefighters were injured.
