Current Situation

The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at the 5700 block of Norwood.  The first arriving unit described working fire conditions with fire extension to the attic space of the house and the potential for trapped victims amongst hoarder-like conditions.  Crews made an aggressive fire attack from the exterior to the interior of the second floor; with a search being completed by making access through windows using Vent-Enter-Search tactics.  After the incident was controlled, a cadaver search canine was used to ensure no victims were present given the hoarder-like conditions. Fire units stayed committed to the incident for approximately 4 hours with extensive overhaul. Other departments contributing to the incident included Code Compliance, Riverside Public Utilities, Building Safety, and the Fire Investigation Unit who stated that the cause of the fire is undetermined.   Battalion Chief Richmond was in command of the Norwood Incident and at its conclusion the residence was released to Code Compliance and Building Safety to finish securing the structure.  There is no reported civilian or firefighter injuries.
