On Thursday, November 7, 2024, at approximately 8:52 a.m., the Riverside Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the 5100 block of Olivewood Ave. Upon arrival, crews found fire in a two-story apartment building and initiated an aggressive fire attack. The incident triggered a first alarm structure fire assignment, with an additional engine company and AMR ambulance dispatched in response to the potential for a resident being inside.
Firefighting Operations:
- Firefighters quickly coordinated a primary and secondary search of the apartment, with no residents found inside.
- Crews performed a focused fire attack, containing the blaze to one apartment unit, which was rendered uninhabitable due to the damage.
- The fire was brought under control without incident, and the structure was assessed for safety.

- An arson investigator determined the cause of the fire to be electrical in nature.

The City of Riverside Fire Department is on scene of a structure fire in the 5100 block of Olivewood. What was initially dispatched as a vegetation fire was found to be smoke coming from the second story of a small apartment building. There is one civilian with a medical complaint being attended to by fire personnel with an AMR ambulance en route. Battalion Chief Vanderhorst is the Olivewood incident commander. Commitment time for resources on scene is 1-2 hours.
