Current Situation
The City of Riverside Fire Department responded a first alarm structure fire assignment to a report of an apartment on fire. The first arriving fire crew found a working fire in a residential apartment. Crews stretched a hose line for fire attack and forced entry into the unit keeping the fire contained in the kitchen. Crews conducted a primary search and found the unit to be unoccupied.
The City of Riverside Fire and Arson Investigations Unit responded to the scene and determined the cause of the fire to be accidental disposal of smoking materials into a trash can. Battalion Chief Greg White was the Bernard Incident Commander. One tenant was displaced from the apartment. The City of Riverside Fire Department provided a SAVE card for initial disaster assistance and the Red Cross has been contacted for further follow-up assistance. There were no reported civilian or firefighter injuries.
