Current Situation
On Friday April 25, 2025, at 10:16 p.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded a first alarm vegetation fire assignment to the Old Boy Scout Camp for a report of three brush fires. Firefighters arrived on scene to discover seven separate vegetation fires burning from the area of the VFW Post at Lake Evans back to Mission Inn Ave X Bridge in the Old Boy Scout Camp. As the first due engine made entry on to the Santa Ana River Trail, the company officer was notified by bystanders that a homeless person wrapped in a blanket was lighting the fires from Mission Inn Ave towards Lake Evans.
An Arson Investigator was requested along with a second, third alarm from the City of Riverside along with five of the closet engine companies from Riverside County Cal-Fire for mutual aid to assist. RPD Air One responded to the incident and provided aerial reconnaissance. Investigator 2 was unable to locate the suspect and will return to the scene today for a follow-up investigation. Firefighters were able to contain the fires to the area of the Old Boy Scout Camp. Estimated total acreage burned was 1.5 acres. A total of 57 firefighters and two Chief Officers responded to the incident. There were no firefighters or civilian injuries.
