Current Situation

On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 12:16 p.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded a first alarm vegetation fire response to the Box Springs Preserve for a report of a vegetation fire on the mountain.  Riverside County Cal-Fire also had a response to the area as well due to the multi-jurisdictional area.  The first arriving Chief Officer reported a fire mid-slope on Sugarloaf Mountain burning in both Riverside County and Riverside City’s jurisdiction.  Cal-Fire and the City of Riverside entered into Unified Command.  Cal-Fire supported the City of Riverside with aircraft, hand crews along with engine companies.  The forward progress of the fire was stopped at 11.2 acres. 

There was one firefighter injury that was treated and released back to full duty on scene.  There were no civilian injuries and no damage to properties.  The cause of the fire was undetermined, but was human caused.   A total of 149 personnel were assigned to the incident.
