Current Situation
The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a report of a railcar fire on a moving train initially reported to be heading west bound along the track from the downtown area. After the initial investigation it was determined that the railcar fire was located parallel to Chicago between Spruce and Columbia and moving east. The first arriving Company Officer described a double stacked Connex with the upper Connex open and on fire. The 14th Street Incident Command had already been established, and it was determined that due to access issues the train would need to be repositioned to the east. Once the train was repositioned, fire units extinguished the fire and then released the railcar back to the BNSF representative and BNSF police for removal and investigation.
