Current Situation
On February 23, 2024, The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a natural gas report at University of California Riverside (UCR). Fire department crews arrived on scene to find one adult male feeling ill after entering a laboratory room inside one of the buildings. Crews investigated and were informed of likely hazardous materials being stored in the room. The Fire Departments Haz Mat team responded and worked in conjunction with UCR representatives and SoCalGas. The Hazardous Materials team made entry into the building and were unable to identify any hazards. The incident was transferred back to UCR for further investigation and mitigation if warranted. There was one injury reported that did not require ambulance transport.
