Current Situation
The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at the vacant Farmhouse Motel located at 1400 University Avenue in Riversides Eastside. Truck 1 was first to arrive on scene and reported an exterior fire in a large debris pile adjacent to the motel. Truck 1 also reported several transients evacuating the vacant structure. The fire extended into the attic of the motel and burned 3 rooms before being knocked down. Several layers of roofing material along with high temperatures made fully extinguishing the blaze a challenge. Two additional engine companies and a breathing support along with two training captains responded to assist. A Backhoe was also brought in to open the large debris pile so that it could be fully extinguished. The city owned motel is in the process of being demolished. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire could not be determined.
