A Message from the Chief…
“I recognize that recent activities by federal law enforcement in Riverside and the region have raised concerns for some in our community. The trust we’ve built with our residents and businesses matters deeply to us, and we remain firmly committed to your safety and well-being.
The California Values Act prohibits local law enforcement from using resources for the sole purpose of enforcing immigration laws with only limited exceptions involving serious or violent crimes. The enforcement of immigration laws is the primary responsibility of the federal government under the Immigration and Nationality Act. Therefore, our responsibility at the Riverside Police Department is clear; we enforce state and local laws, investigate crimes, and protect the members of our community regardless of immigration status.
As we prepare for potential demonstrations here in Riverside, we will be ready to help ensure our community’s voices are heard safely. We fully respect your right to peaceful protest, but crossing the line into violence, vandalism, or criminal activity is something we WILL NOT tolerate. We are committed to serving everyone in Riverside and working with the community to keep our city safe.”
