New Main Library to Begin Accepting Items for Time Capsule

The public can submit small Riverside memories to be placed inside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Starting Thursday, April 1, 2021 through April 30th, the City of Riverside’s new Main Library will begin accepting small items from our community members to go inside a time capsule.  This time capsule will be buried just outside the arcade space at the new Main Library, located at 3900 Mission Inn Avenue in downtown Riverside.

The new Main Library will be a two-story building covering approximately 42,000 square feet of innovative space.  With beautiful views of downtown and Mount Rubidoux, visitors will be able to enjoy reading and study rooms, storytime areas, laptop kiosks and wireless printing, self-checkout machines, and seating throughout this state-of-the-art facility.  The new Main Library will be opening to the public later this year.

“We are excited to bring the new main library to our Riverside community,” said the City of Riverside’s Library Director, Erin Christmas.  “This time capsule is a fun way to show the future stewards of our libraries what it was like to be a Riversider in the 21st century.”

Items allowed for the time capsule may include photographs, documents, and objects no larger than 2” x 2” x 2” in size.  Items not accepted are weapons, pornography, contraband that includes drugs or alcohol, and anything containing racism, profanity, or gang symbolism.

Items can be dropped off at the following locations during “Library-to-Go” hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 6:00 p.m., then on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
