Riverside City Council Places Riverside Services Protection Measure on Nov. 2 Ballot
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Riverside City Council voted Tuesday (7/20) to place the Riverside Services Protection Measure on the Nov. 2 ballot.
If enacted, the Measure will continue a long-standing, voter-authorized transfer of certain monies from the City’s electric utility to maintain 911 emergency response times; fire, police, and paramedic services; and programs serving vulnerable residents, such as homeless families.
The Riverside Services Protection Measure will maintain services to address local priorities identified by the community during The Riverside Discussion, a community engagement effort that the City launched earlier this year. Of the more than 1,800 community responses, the following priorities were identified by the public:
- Addressing homelessness.
- Maintaining 9-1-1 response/police and fire/paramedic services
- Investigating and preventing property crimes
- Preparing for and recovering from public health emergencies
- Retaining local businesses
- Maintaining City streets and street repairs
- Keeping public areas and parks clean and safe
- Preventing and preparing for wildfires
