Riverside Public Utilities has formed a partnership with Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) to streamline and automate the rebate process for high-efficiency toilets, clothes washers, irrigation controllers, and many other water-saving devices.

Rebates will now be administered and processed by MWD. Rebate applications and specific information is available at www.socalwatersmart.com.

Commercial Turf Replacement Program

Reduce water usage by up to an estimated 60% by removing turf and converting to drought tolerant landscape. Rebates start at $7 per square foot for the first 4,999 square feet of existing, irrigated turf that is removed and replaced with drought tolerant landscape. After 5,000 square feet, the rebate is $2 per square feet of existing, irrigated turf that is removed and replaced with drought tolerant landscape.

Water Savings Incentive Program (WSIP)

WSIP is designed for non-residential customers improving their water efficiency through upgraded equipment or services that do not qualify for standard rebates. WSIP is unique because it provides an incentive based on the amount of water customers save. This “pay-for-performance” design lets customers implement custom projects for their sites.

PHETs use almost 20% less water than the current WaterSense standard toilets. Rebates start at $240 per eligible model.

High-Efficiency, Ultra Low-Flush and Zero Water Urinals

Ultra low-flush and zero water urinals provide effective, low maintenance flushing in public restrooms while reducing water consumption. Rebates start at $200 for qualified devices.

Plumbing Flow Control Valves

Flow control valves are designed to maintain water pressure while reducing water flow in faucets and showers by up to 60%. Rebates start at $5/Flow Control Valve.

Weather-Based "Smart" Irrigation Controllers

Weather-based (“smart”) irrigation controllers provide the appropriate watering schedule, adjust for changing weather patterns and irrigate based on the needs of your landscape. Rebates start at $35/station.

Central Computer Irrigation Controllers

These sophisticated systems are designed for larger irrigated areas such as golf courses, parks, schools and large commercial complexes. Central computer irrigation controllers consist of a master controller (often a personal computer) which tells the valves in remote locations to open and close. Rebates start at $35/station.

High-Efficiency Nozzles for Pop-Up Spray Heads

High-efficiency sprinkler nozzles can distribute water more effectively. Rebates are up to $5/nozzle.

High-Efficiency Nozzles for Large Rotary Heads

By replacing your standard plastic nozzles with high-efficiency metal nozzles, your large rotary sprinklers will become resistant to wear and distribute water more uniformly. Rebates start at $13/set.

In-Stem Flow Regulators

The in-stem regulator controls water flow in irrigation systems at the head. This is an ideal solution for parks, schools, office complexes, golf courses, nurseries and other commercial irrigation applications. Rebates start at $1/regulator; minimum quantity of 25 regulators.

Soil Moisture Sensor Systems

Soil Moisture Sensor System detects water needs by gauging the moisture present in the soil. Rebates start at $35 per irrigation controller station.

Connectionless Food Steamers

Water-efficient, connectionless (pressureless) food steamers, which have no water or sewer discharge lines, have recently been developed to maintain or warm food in small- to medium-size restaurants. Rebates start at $485/compartment.

Air-cooled ice machines use less water and energy than conventional ice machines, and make ice more quickly and efficiently. Rebates start at $1,000 per qualifying ice machine.

Cooling Tower Conductivity Controllers

Conductivity controllers can lower the cost of operating your cooling tower by providing greater control over your tower’s blow down and subsequent makeup water. And with an integrated pH conductivity controller, you can upgrade your cooling tower water treatment system by adding chemicals that control the system’s pH. Rebates start at $625 for Cooling Tower Conductivity Controllers and $1,750 for Cooling Tower pH Controllers.

Dry Vacuum Pumps

Liquid ring vacuum pumps use large quantities of water to create a liquid seal and enable suction. Dry vacuum pumps, on the other hand, use machined parts with extremely close tolerances to create suction. Both types of vacuum pumps are used in manufacturing facilities, including medical and dental manufacturing, among other uses. Rebates start at $125/0.5HP.

Laminar Flow Restrictors

Laminar flow devices avoid drawing air into the water stream, allowing them to produce a non-aerated clear stream of water while inhibiting bacterial growth and transmission. They reduce flow rates and can help lower water and energy costs.
