Biography

Steve Hemenway was first elected to the Riverside City Council on November 5, 2019, and was unanimously reelected to a second term on March 5, 2024. A Riverside resident for more than thirty years, Steve has dedicated his career to community service, public engagement, and helping others thrive.

Steve currently serves as Vice President for Financial Administration and Chief Financial Officer at La Sierra University. His previous experience includes serving as Finance Director for La Sierra University Church and as Communications and Marketing Manager for the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies, a Master of Arts in School Counseling, and a Master of Business Administration with a dual emphasis in Finance and Accounting—all from La Sierra University.

Deeply committed to civic and nonprofit leadership, Steve has been involved in numerous local organizations dedicated to strengthening Riverside’s social and economic well-being. He currently sits on the Riverside Transit Agency Board of Directors, helping to guide regional transportation priorities and policy. He previously served four years on the Board of 211 Community Connect, including two years as Board Chair, and played a key role in creating and implementing the City’s social work internship program, now known as the Love Your Neighbor Collaborative.

Councilmember Hemenway remains committed to partnering with residents of Ward 7 and across the City of Riverside to build strong, healthy, and thriving neighborhoods for all.
