An ancient prophecy:
When the grandmothers from the four winds speak, a new time is coming.
The artistic vision for this mural is offered with great reverence and respect to the original peoples of this land. The four directions are represented by the image of four grandmothers: Tongva, people of the Earth; Luiseño, people of the West; Cahuilla, people of the desert; Serrano, people of the pines.
The grandmothers will serve as a reminder for all to see whose land they are standing on, to step with mindfulness, to step with care.
About the Artist: Denise Silva
Born in East L.A. and raised in Riverside, Denise Silva is an artist, storyteller, indigenous femme and mother of 6. After studying design & illustration at CSULA, motherhood brought Denise back to the Inland Empire to put down strong family roots. As an artist and creative in the community, she is best known for her bold figurative shapes and dream-like color stories. Denise’s art is woman-centered, nature-centered, grounded and rich with sacred Mesoamerican symbols, often delving into divine feminine mysticism. The artist works from her home studio in Riverside and describes her art as healing medicine for the soul, divine messages to find our way back home to ourselves.
