The Riverside Police Foundation, is a non-profit organization established by Retired Chief Sergio G. Diaz back in 2012, to provide programs and services to the community of our City! The Foundation has supported thousands of youth through its varied programs. The mission of the Riverside Police Foundation fosters visible and direct community support to promote public safety and enhance the programs and services for the children of the City of Riverside. Our Vision is to take a leadership role in preventing crime, saving lives and improving the quality of life in our community through partnerships that enhance and strengthen the connection of children and the Riverside Police Department. Our focus it a safer City for the children and those who live, work, and visit our great city.
The Foundation works with citizens and business partners to support various community programs, as it continues to grow and expand. We started with just a few: Opportunities with Education (O.W.E.), Teen 2 Teen, and the Riverside Police Explorers 714. But now, the Foundation also supports El Protector, the Riverside Youth Judo Club, the Raincross Boxing Academy, as well as You Are Not Alone, our senior program. Along with monetary support of these programs, the Foundation utilizes donations to help provide uniforms, helmets, car seats, stickers, and other necessary items.
The Riverside Police Foundation is committed to a proactive approach to the health, safety, education and welfare of the children and seniors of Riverside. The planning and implementation of this proactive approach takes time and money. Funding for all the Police Department’s child-related and community support programs were paid for solely out of the Police Department’s annual budget, but now, thanks to the generous support of the community, is supplemented, or predominately funded by, the Police Foundation. This helps to ensure the continuous funding of the programs, regardless of economic climate within the City.

Join us on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the Riverside Convention Center for the 9th Annual "Fight for the Cure" All Women’s Breast & Ovarian Cancer Judo Tournament, hosted by Riverside Youth Judo Club! This all-female judo tournament brings fierce female competitors in suppor of an incredible cause. Come down and show your support or sponsor a medal and dedicate it to a loved one who survived or is dearly missed.

The Riverside Youth Judo Club will be hosting their Annual Fight For The Cure All-Women's Charity Breast & Ovarian Cancer Judo Tournament on Sunday October 11th, 2026 at the Riverside Convention Center. Here is your chance to participate by sponsoring a medal. Every Tournament medal will include the name of a Breast or Ovarian Cancer Survivor, or the name of a loved one who has been lost to the disease.
The Programs
Raincross Boxing Academy
The program started from the idea of now retired Riverside Police Detective. He partnered with UCR’s Highland Gloves Boxing Club, and in 2014 the established the successful program known as Raincross Boxing Academy, to create a free boxing program for students, their families, and professional and amateur boxers that included community service and education in Riverside, CA.
The Raincross Boxing Academy program is designed to instill discipline, community involvement, and a healthy lifestyle for the at-risk youth of Riverside. The organization serves our community and students through community events and weekly tutoring and workouts with students in the Riverside Unified School District. El Protector
The El Protector program is designed to educate the Spanish speaking community within the City of Riverside through the dedicated efforts of Officers of the Riverside Police Department. The focus of the program is to improve community relations, provide educational programs, safeguard the community, and better serve the public.
The program goes beyond the traditional Police Officer role, taking a proactive approach in our endeavor to overcome the barriers of language and culture. We recognize the need to educate ourselves as well as the public in order to achieve an improved understanding. The El Protector program serves to further our efforts in improving the safety and service of the Hispanic community.
You Are Not Alone (Y.A.N.A.)
The Y.A.N.A program is free to all Riverside residents and helps to provide on-going contact to seniors or home-bound residents that live alone and do not have any local family or friends. Our department volunteers provide pre-arranged phone calls to help ensure the safety and well-being of the participants. If several phone calls are unanswered, a welfare check is conducted by the program coordinator. In addition to phone calls, the Riverside Police Department hosts events for the participants to meet other seniors and members of the police department.
Teen 2 Teen
Teen 2 Teen is a youth-based program that was founded in 1996 in partnership with John W. North High School’s Law and Protective Services Academy (LAPS). The LAPS Academy Seniors are provided public speaking training and equipped with the tools needed to inform their peers about traffic safety issues. The students involved with the program interact with police department personnel, gain an increased ability to speak in public, learn leadership skills, and explore different areas of traffic safety. In addition, all Teen 2 Teen students make presentations to students at their school and/or other schools throughout the school year.
Riverside Police Explorers #714
The Riverside Police Department Police Explorer Program’s purpose is to provide experiences that help young people mature, and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Explorers are taught how to be independent and work as a team. In addition, they are taught the importance of personal responsibility and caring in their relationships with others and in their commitment to the community.
Exploring is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and the organizations in their communities. Local community organizations, such as the Riverside Police Department, initiate a specific Explorer Program to offer the wealth and knowledge of their best employees to be role models, trainers, and mentors to young people in the community. The Explorer Program affords an opportunity for youngsters to participate in a variety of meaningful and fulfilling activities that help them pursue their special interests, growth, and development. Explorer programs are based on five area of emphasis: career opportunities, life skills, citizenship, character education, and leadership experience.
Riverside Youth Judo Club
The Riverside Youth Judo Club, Police Activities League is a Charitable Nonprofit Club with the Police Foundation. Many of our 400+ students are considered at-risk and are fully funded through the program. The club is all-inclusive and has over 150 students with various Developmental Disabilities. Riverside Youth Court
Since 2004, the Riverside Youth Court program has been a unique and innovative approach to juvenile justice, acting as an early intervention and diversion program for first-time offenders of misdemeanor crimes. Youth Court is designed to give youth between the ages of 10 and 17, who have broken the law and admitted their guilt, a second chance and is a positive alternative to traditional juvenile court proceedings. Respondents, or those who have committed infractions, are given the opportunity to have their cases heard by a jury of their peers, rather than facing formal legal consequences.
