Life Skills Classes

Office of Homeless Solutions

Office of Homeless Solutions (OHS) works with various agencies to provide direct outreach services to reduce and prevent homelessness. It provides services such as outreach, case management, workforce development, wrap around services, supportive, and transitional housing.

One of the learning programs the OHS offers is the life skills classes in the wrap around services. The life skills classes are offered to help educate, train, and provide the tools necessary to become self-sufficient to the rental assistance program participants. Various inspiring speakers are invited to teach topics in house cleaning, cooking, home maintenance, hygiene, mental health, emotional control, and conflict resolution. A total of eight classes are scheduled, of which two classes on the same topic are taught in a month, allowing smaller group discussions.

A total of 38 participants have benefited from taking the life skills classes. They are transported by shuttle or Uber from their homes to reduce any transportation barriers the participants may face. Once participants have attended all the classes, they will celebrate with a pizza party and a certificate of completion.
