Shopping Carts

The City of Riverside is concerned about neighborhood blight and public safety issues associated with abandoned shopping carts. As a result, on September 6, 2005, the City Council amended Chapter 9.58 of the Riverside Municipal Code  The amendment requires store operators that provide carts to its customers to either contract with the City for Cart retrieval services or submit to the City of Riverside a prevention plan to prevent cart removal from the business premises.

Abandoned shopping carts constitute a nuisance, create safety hazards, cause blight, and interfere with pedestrian and vehicular traffic within the City of Riverside.

You can help reduce these hazards by reporting abandoned shopping carts in the public right-of-way to the City’s 311 Call Center.
