History of the SPC. Jesus S. Duran Eastside Library
The SPC. Jesus S. Duran Eastside Library opened in 1998 as the Eastside Cybrary, which focused on digital services and resources. The Cybrary earned many awards, including:
- Helen Putnam Award in Arts and Quality of Life from the League of California Cities
- Digital Stepping Stones Award from the Tomás Rivera Policy Institute for the top 25 exemplary programs nationwide
- National Award for Excellence from the Young Adult Library Services Association of the American Library Association
The library moved to a store front on Chicago Avenue in 2003 and expanded to a full-service library. This location closed in 2025.
A temporary location opened at the Lincoln Park Community Center, with morning library services and afternoon outreach with the electric Mobile Library.
The SPC. Jesus S. Duran Eastside Library will be starting a new chapter in 2027 in a new building at Bobby Bonds Park!
